We asked

We asked for feedback on the rent restructure as well as proposals on how we should charge the rent, based on factors such as size, age and garden space of a property.

We did

We have three sessions planned with Arneil Johnstone on 29 October 2024 at venues across Clackmannanshire. These sessions have been provided to allow tenants to ask further questions about rent setting. These views will be taken forward to the budget planning process.

Overview

Clackmannanshire Council is considering whether to change the way that rents are calculated and reclaimed from tenants.

Rents are usually charged based on the characteristics of the home that a tenant lives in, for example:
•    property size (the number of bedrooms)
•    property type (flat/house) or
•    location and property features.

A range of characteristics could potentially be taken into account when setting rents.

The reason that change is being considered is to create a charging system which is simple, fair and consistent across all tenants of Clackmannanshire Council. This means that the same set of rules will apply to all tenants, ensuring that no one pays more or less than they should for the property that they live in and the services they receive.

Clackmannanshire Council want to consult tenants about how to set rents within the main rent for the property. This is a chance to have your say on whether you think this is a good idea.

This is a separate exercise from the annual rent increase.  Our annual rent increase consultation will come later in the year, in November.

Why your views matter

Clackmannanshire Council want to hear views on what you consider to be a simple, fair and consistent set of rules for rent setting. We want to test your ideas on which property characteristics should be considered to guide how rents are calculated. Your views are extremely important to us.

We would like to assure you that all the information we collect will be kept in the strictest confidence and used for research purposes only. It will not be possible to identify anything you have said personally from the results.  Thank you for your participation and do please answer all questions.
